Sugarloaf Reservoir

Well, readers, I have a lot to catch you up on since Amanda’s visit.  I’ll start with our hike a few weeks ago on our anniversary.  We went out to Sugarloaf Reservoir, which supplies some of Melbourne’s water.  Our hiking book promised that we might see some kangaroos out there, and that was no lie!  We hadn’t been on the trail 5 minutes when we ran into these guys!

The reservoir wasn’t very scenic, and the trail was a bit hard to follow in some spots, but all the kangaroos we saw more than made up for it!  They seemed to be around every turn, and although they would hop away when they saw us, they didn’t  seem to really be afraid of us.  They would hop a few feet away to a safer distance and then just turn around to observe us.  We saw them in large and small groups, in the woods and in the open fields.

There was also lots of, um, evidence of kangaroos on the ground, if ya know what I mean.

We ate lunch at a spot high on the hill with views of Melbourne and the Dandenong Ranges.

It was a great hike and we rewarded ourselves later with a delicious Italian dinner.  If you ever see fig tart with green apple ice cream on the menu, you should get it!
